In the Special olympic symbol, you see 5 humanoid figures each with 6 arms standing in a circle.
The circle symbolizes that there are developmentaly disabled people all over the world. The humanoid figures say that just because someone's mind is slow to process informantion, he or she in NO LESS a human being and deserves to be treated as a human being. We are HUMAN folks!
The lower arms represent all the garbage the mentally challenged had ot put up with over the years: prejudice, discrimination, right to education taken away, institutions, abuse, ni constitutional rights, no human rights, no right to family, bullyism, name-calling, and shunning.
The middle arms mean reaching out to community, to fellow humans and reaching out to fellow mentally challenged. It means embracing.
The upper arms symbolize the how much we have overcome, and how far we have come since the institution days!

2010 national games
NAtional games is comming up next year, and all athletes who won gold medals at thier state games are going!! IN my case, it is 2 female track stars out of HUNDREDS!!! I turned in my paperwork on time, and I hope it gets drawn in August. I won 2 gold medals at state, I did all I could do! I broke all my records in my events. Now, I just have to wait until August.
IN my state, we have 2 female track stars, 2 male track stars, 2 female swimmers, 2 male swimmers, 2 female wieghtlifters, 2 male weightlifters, 1 female golfer, 1 male golfer, 2 female bowlers and 2 male bowlers who are going to the national games. WHO-we don't know yet. The due date for the national games application is July 3. I think that games are going to be awesome.

My Autism
I've had autism since I was born, and the shots triggered the gene. I screamed when I was a baby, and I cried every evening when I was a little bit older. I HATED and still hate sudden plan changes. I can not cope with stress. My hearing is still sensative, but not as sensative as it was in the past! I did not talk unril I was 5, I onyl reapeated what I heard time and time again-I drove my mother crazy. I was so hyper, it was'nt even funny. I will never escape autism. I still live in my head sometimes. I see autsim as an ethnicity. AUTISM POWER!!!

2008 state track meet
This was the opening ceremonies after they were over at MCChord Air Force Base
next up
Next up...... Summer sports!! That means softball.
We will have a least 3 slowpitch teams, a few skills athletes who will try thier hand at some of the skills of softball, and a t-ball team. The t-ball team will be new to SK Special Olympics. We may or may noty have a unified slowpitch team this year. I will not be playing as I get zapped by the sun if I am out long enough. I played for a few years, but the sun was really getting to me, and I was sleeping standing up! Plus, the sport is kind of boring to me. At competitions, there is a small opening ceremonies and games, and that's it! There is nothing to do on a team's down time like there is at swimming, or track, of soccer meets. We used to have team skills team, but that was only 1 year as individual skills are popular around here.

The weather was great! Congrats to Troy, Shaneey and Matt for being such a great relay team with me! That was a fun year. A month later, Shaneey went to the national games and won a silver medal and a bronze medal in long jump and 400m run. She took 5th place in the 200m run.

my story

I was normanl until I got a high fever which caused a siezure when I was 2. I also got a lot of shots at once. I started SCREAMING every chance I got, and crying on a regular basis. I only made wierd noises or I repeated everything I heard. I did not talk. My motor skills were lacking. I could not run, jump, hop, skip, cut, color in the lines. I Had ZERO social skills. I made NO eye-contact whatsoever, and I was HYPER!!! My aunt's sister said somthing about autism, but my parents believed what was then the popular no-label story: that I had multiple learning disabilities and I was hyper, and that I WOULD GROW OUT OF IT BY 16!!
I went to a special ed. pre-school for 3 years. I was getting caught up in my motor skills and talking. I was 5 when I was man enough to answer "yes" or "no" when the teacher asked me if I wanted juice. Brfore then, I responded "yes-or-no"! I also got special help in kindergarten and first grade. In second grade, all help was dropped, and I was lost in the system. I still acted strangly, I still did not socialize. I was home schooled until I was 17.
At 16, I lost it! My mind snapped. I went to the University of Washington and I was labeled with autism. I have been autistic all along! I knew that I was not socialble, nor made eye-contact, I knew I acted weird and lived in my imagination every chance I got, but for some reason, they thought that I will grow out of it by 16!
I went to high school in September of 1999, and I started special olympics in the spring. I was in swimming , and I won 6 medals. By the time 2000 came around, my new medicines put me on an even keel, and I won 8 medals in track and field! I still did not know how to run properly until then! In August, I joined my high school's naval junior reserve officer training corps. I went to a week long boot camp, and graduated as a platoon honor cadet and a member of honor platoon! As far as jrotc went, iended up with 2 medals, 18 ribbons, numerous certificates, named cadet of the month, and a rank of cadet senior chief!!
I graduated from high school 3.8 GPA, and read an origional poem at the ceremonies. I was vice president of the german club, which I LOVED because I am 3/8 german and going tot he big high school annual german convention was FUN!!
I was in Special Olympics for 10 year now with 94 medals in 6 sports. I competed at 10 consecutive state summer games in Fort Lewis winning at least 1 gold medal at the games! I am a 24-time state champion!! I will be competing at my 11th state games in shot put, relay, 5k walk and 800m walk.

what does it mean?
What does "brave in the attempt" mean? Does it mean machismo, or being a daredevil, or taking foolish risks? NO! "Brave in the attempt" means no matter how many times you fall, you get back up and keep going! It means that no matter how far behind you are, you still keep going without let up. IT means you give your best no matter how you finish. It means you finish no matter what. It means you don't give up, give in or quit before time is up!
It also means sportsmanship!! Brave in the attempt means you show good sportsmanship NO MATTER WHAT!!! Cursing, arguing, fighting, yelling, and insults are no being brave in the attempt. Being arrogant about your win in not being brave in the attempt either!
Brave in the attempt means you give it your all without holding yourself back just so you can get an easier competition. Sandbagging and cheating are NOT brave in the attempt. Sandbagging is a form of cheating anyways since you are cheating you competition by holding yourself back in a trial event. Is taht being brave in the attempt?! I think not. Taking drugs to enhance performance is not brave in the attempt, not is haveing a bad attitude. Leave it to the coach to argue with the officials!
MAny years ago at a district softball tournament, one of our teams was NOT being brave in the attempt! Almost all of them were crying like babies and WOULD NOT EVEN GET UP TO GO TO BAT! They gave up too soon. One of thier players threatened her coach with a bat! Another player was cursing up a storm and pounding on the fence, THier coach said that even if they got invited to the state games, they were not going! That kind of behavior is NOT brave!
